See Fancybox test page for a test of the Fancybox image-galley plugin. Although version 1 has a very cute fade transition, there's still a background kick when the first image is clicked, and it's not compatible with Astro. On balance version 6 (compatible with Astro) with the slide transition seems the best compromise.
